David Brooks writes in the NYT: "How does being Latina influence how you read a black writer like St. Augustine?" St. Augustine was born in modern Algeria near Tunisian border about 50 miles south of Mediterranean, c. 2000 miles N of Timbuktu. @nntaleb http://www.unz.com/isteve/poor-david-brooks-is-just-trolling-us-now/ …https://twitter.com/nntaleb/status/976912464427220992 …

Out understanding of history would be much, much improved if "North Africa" was called "South Med" instead. Too many people think in words.

Here are genes today. Used EuroMed as equivalent to "Western Eurasia". The mixing with Subsaharan only took place recently (Egypt, Morocco). David Brooks is effectively klueeless.pic.twitter.com/C77TicmlMY

I do not know it's original source but I found the plot published on Unz Review by one of their authors called @JayMan471 . Data is sourced from the Human Genome Diversity Project with samples by Cavalli-Sforza (1994), Chao Tian (2008), Rosenberg (2006).

Yes, but who would check an obscure website like wikipedia for getting information about Augustine ethnic background ? Left: biographical notice of Augustine. Right: Egyptian depiction of a Berberpic.twitter.com/aJvDtGzVY5

Of course they are not, except in the mind of some illiterate Americans who think that "born in Africa = Black". I think the sub-saharan part of the continent should have a different name than the Northern part

When I was in college, a black pride type in ROTC picked Hannibal to do a presentation on because he assumed Hannibal was black, being from Africa like Augustine.

i still can't wrap my head around what seems to be happening here. The dumbest, most idiotic afrocentric garbage, that only 20yrs ago even liberals routinely trashed (recall mary lefkowitz vs afrocentrists) is now common knowledge !? colonization ofwestern mind by the Other mind

+ i used to laugh imagining dumb scenarios like "soon they will claim Rome was 30% Black, based on the roman senate having been 1/3rd african at some point". And they are claiming such things and making them "common knowledge" and i'm not finding it too funny @Vertumne1

Is Brooks an Afrocentrist? Augustine is thought to have been a Berber. As far as I know, Berbers are native North Africans of Caucasian-Arab ethnicity. Here are some examples:pic.twitter.com/av9uRZh6yY
