Stanford should sell its entire campus for housing, and then ask for bids from cities wanting it to locate near them and create the next Silicon Valley there. Stanford would do well, and so would the new location.

A house on a 1/4 acre lot in that neighborhood would sell on average for probably 1.5M$. That means 3 * 5k * 1.5M = 22.5 G$ worth of real estate. That's a billion with a G. Think of the public good! Kelo v. City of New London practically demands it!
