I think the B-W gap is so large in that study b/c the SD is calculated for law school groups rather than for all law schools or for all applicants to law schools. The range is restricted within the groups. If the SD was calculated for everybody, the gap would be closer to 1 SD.

Don't you think it might be bigger than 1SD? As it relates to IQ, the gap is larger at the right end of the tail than the left. Seems law students, being selected for this group (right tail) would display that bigger difference too.

It's possible but I don't see how it could be anywhere close to 2 SD.

I agree with that. Literature shows average 1.33 SD different at high SES. If there's anything to the mismatch hypothesis, I could see close to 1.5 difference in some cases.
