Why do women have lower insurance rates then? Because they drive less?

They tend to speed less. Wrecks from hitting curbs and sudden lane changes cost less than a guy wrapping his car around a tree.
-
I believe this is the reason. I have heard the gap in insurance cost is narrowing from women texting more.

You've never seen my wife drive.

Women IMO view their cars like its a house, their own space if you will and they love it. Its got nothing to do with getting somewhere actually.

I think that stereotype has become more accurate again, as women have switched to giant SUVs which are more difficult for them to maneuver.
-
Jane Austen noted women's poor ability to judge distances, which seems fairly true.

I am guessing that women have always had fewer driving accidents than men, as they certainly do now from the beginning of driving in the teenage years to the end of life...

You're perhaps confused between cliches and stereotypes. Cliches are truths that are uttered so often that they become trite. A stereotype by definition is an oversimplification. It is an attempt to take a complex subject and simplify it to the point of absurdity. Not logical
