"Shape of Water" is Best Picture favorite because plot is: Democratic Coalition of the Fringes (a disabled woman, a gay man, a black woman, a Communist, and a fish) unite to defeat the GOP Core American evil cishet white evilest evil male of all time (besides Trump, of course).https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/970494028377722880 …

Personally, I don't get why anyone saw "Shape of Water" and thought "wow, this has to win Best Picture!", but it seems to be pretty universally well-liked by Academy types? Maybe "Dunkirk" is a better example.

Also, "Shape of Water" is an Oscar front runner because it was directed by Guillermo del Toro, who is a Person of Color (pink). #PersonOfPallor

The Oscars puts everything that is wrong with the USA, and modern society as a whole, on full display. Morally corrupt people giving each other awards for their perversions and debauchery.

Hollywood never fails to put racism/sexism/homophobia front and center in historical fiction. They expect us to suspend disbelief about everything else, but that political point of view has to be pushed no matter what. The Shape of Propaganda

The Oscars walked a pretty weird line between saying Hollywood has been full of racism and sexism for decades while also paying homage to past Oscar winners and shows.
