The repetitive, childlike rhythms. How infantile a musician has to be to maintain enthusiasm.

Agree with this. In my progressive days, I predicted the emergence of a new genre at the latest by the two thousand and teenies on the basis of a continuing pattern, but it didn't happen, The interesting question then is: WHY?
-
Because the wholesale collapse of the arts is the surest sign yet that our society is already well into the freefall.

Isn’t an old white guy talking down rap just a little too on the nose? You don’t have to be your stereotype!

-
Crititicising someone's opinion based on the fact that they are "old and white" is being stereotypical. That one is okay though so you're good.
-
you're right by half, knut. you shuda stopped at your first period, before you went on to contradict yourself.

Best review of a hip hop single ever. "X samples a track that was released only 2 months ago. Pretty soon hip hop artists will sample songs that haven't been released yet. Oh wait, that would be called songwriting, they won't do that." (Paraphrased from memory from Jeff Clark).

To say Rap is an advance on previous styles of music is a bunch of happy horseshit. It's a modification, sometimes good, mostly worthless, but not an advance.

They're more talk-oriented now. I have trouble following the words but the do crank them out prolifically (drugs?). I have heard maybe a dozen different metres, with much alliteration and internal rhyme. But no they do not do much actual music anymore.

...it could turn into something in another hundred years. Or simply devolve back into to African tribal rhythm with chants.

Hi Steve, Love Dylan, but he didn't invent this (as he'd be first to tell you if he happened to hear of you and thought you were worth speaking to). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talking_blues …pic.twitter.com/s9BAQXAtIp

Ridiculous to pretend that De la Soul, Public Enemy, Disposable Heroes etc all rendered worthless by McLaren. More worrying for Black culture that a) hip hop now 90% lurid, degenerate pornography and b) most interesting and exciting practitioner of C21st, Eminem, by a distance.
