There are vastly cheaper ways to care about all 7 billion foreigners than through Open Borders. The Americans who like Open Borders tend to like it not so much because it would help foreigners as that Open Borders would hurt Americans they don't like. Open Borders = Spite.https://twitter.com/DylanSlagh/status/960146883653054464 …

At first I thought, this seems like an ad hominem. But then I realized you were just straight up insulting someone who you disagreed with. I think the obvious difference here is the size of your resective moral circles. @dylanmatt actually cares about non-Americans.

Not only that, but open borders actively harms the countries it's supposed to help. It supports dictatorial regimes by bleeding off dissidents, and even if healthy regimes it skims off the cream.

Imagine someone got into alchohol and didn't clean their house. It's quite the mess. So you say to them, "Eh, don't worry, just come to my place!" I deliberately haven't said whether they're off alcohol yet.

This in the CFR rag is clear (in one paragraph at least|) what open borders would mean for incumbents in the developed world. Disappearance of safety nets and a general fall in average material conditions. The rest is an exercise in wishful thinking. https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/world/2017-02-28/world-without-borders …pic.twitter.com/lIghGRQDuM

They are justifying the worsening of life and living standards of mostly productive Westerners, so that ever increasing people from the developing world can enter the West, & live a somewhat better life than in Africa/ME while living off State handouts. These people are perverse.

My favourite thing is when someone thinks theyre a woke ass leftist for supporting open borders. All it does is drive down labour costs funneling wealth to the top. But we owned the drumpfkins ;)

Haha, that is a hilarious claim. As far as I can tell, open border proponents actually believe that open borders would be good for all Americans. I suggest you start engaging with your opponents actual views instead of an imaginary version of them.

For the record, I’m not totally convinced of either side of the argument (I have a very shallow understanding and as far as I can tell both sides have equal amounts of both theoretical and empirical justification). So, i’ll let vox speak for itselfhttps://www.vox.com/2014/9/13/6135905/open-borders-bryan-caplan-interview-gdp-double …

Yep - the “whites stole Australia from the aboriginals” crowd is perfectly fine importing millions of more non-aboriginals as long as they’re not white cause it’s not really about the aboriginals at all, it’s about hating white people.

and I'm (obviously) aware that America is much wealthier than Haiti or Liberia, but not exactly sure what cost of living has to do with anything - is it not lower in somewhere like Haiti than in the US by many metrics (rent, food etc)?
