You're European, so you don't get this,, but average Americans don't care where you're from, as long as you're here legally. We disdain inherited status. We're not impressed if you got wealth/influence from your parents. We care about what you've done w/ what you started with.
Doesn't the US Constitution specifically bar anyone not American-born from being president? I do remember Democrats getting very upset when a Democratic president was accused of being an immigrant. I do not remember their attempt to amend that article of the constitution.
