In the United States of America, the main obstacle to an immigration deal is that anti-limitationists like Mr. Yglesias are mostly driven by old ethnic animuses that they constantly express but throw a fit whenever anybody else points out their irrational, hate-driven motivations https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/959106484121620481 …

Their opponents are also driven by racial solidarity and animuses. Or has any not noticed that the Democrats are only clamoring for refugees and immigrants when they are brown? I sure don't remember a pro-refugee campaign for Ukranians or South Africans from the left..

You never hear any regrets that the US made no effort to find a home here for Nobel Laureate refugee JM Coetzee when he fled South Africa (for Australia) after writing "Disgrace" about gang rapes of white farm women in South Africa. http://takimag.com/article/heart_of_darkness/print#axzz55qGAaagi …

Why reduce immigration? Our immigration rate isn't that high. You're also removing your main argument against illegal immigration. "Just do it the right way." Which right way?

We went from a 90% white country to a 60% white country in a few decades. Thats genocide when done to Native Americans.

The native Americans were literally massacred. The white population has increased since 1960 and there is no systematic murder of them in any way. You are perverting the word genocide for your own twisted victim complex. You should be absolutely ashamed.

@mattyglesias Mr. Yglesias should know that there are many of us brown Americans who want to restrict immigration and enforce our current immigration laws.

HH poll is more accurate in that it called out actual numbers. The Gallup poll just asked 'do you want immigration increased or decreased', but most Americans have no idea of the actual numbers. When presented numbers in Harvard-Harris, people chose less than current level.

The HH poll went out of their way to word the question such that they get the politicized result they wanted. I bet if you told people the actual *percentage* of immigrants coming in support for more immigration would go up.

BTW there's another thing to point out -- these polls count actual immigrants themselves. There's been nearly 10% increase in the percentage of foreign born in US since early 1970s...that accounts for a lot of supposed 'swing' toward more favorable opinion of immigration.
