Evolved ethnic differences in alcohol addiction propensity depend upon how long your ancestors have been drinking. During Prohibition, Italians like Al Capone were able to push Irish out of Chicago bootlegging because Irish gangsters kept getting high on their own supply.https://twitter.com/MyronGaines1337/status/950503419910897664 …

He's not wrong. Genetic traits are known to be involved in addiction, and they may well vary by race, which (among other reasons) is why Blacks exhibit different drug-related behaviors than Whites. It may better for some races to have prohibition than for others. https://twitter.com/tomangell/status/950474677960527873 …

That might explain why Southern Italians (and Jews) dominated organized crime from roughly 1920 to 1990. Low life thugs, regardless of race, are surrounded by alcohol and narcotics, and being able to restrain even a few vices gives you a straight edge to stab your rivals.

So much of organized crime in America is planned and carried out in bars and clubs. If you can call it good after a couple of drinks, it's a lot easier to dominate the rackets than if you're at the edge of being black out drunk much of the time.

That's a VERY NASTY rumor about the Irish! In fact it was because the Italians were more ruthless and better organized! (I don't know and I don't care but its fun to speculate)🤣🤣

Not that simple. All of Europe has had alcohol for ages.[Speculation: Wine (higher ABV) societies have lower alcoholism, see N/S cline.] Amount and type matter [barley, polished rice, fruit vs chewing corn all day for a beer]

There's a fantastic paper I can't find showing how spread of 'Asian Flush' reaction along Chinese ag deltas. One of the most strongly selected for mutations I am aware of. And it makes drinking more harmful/less pleasurable, suggests big fitness hit w abundant supply is present.
