Oddly, the "AltJews" on Twitter are nearly always British, Canadian, or, if American, Germanic, Sephardic, or Orthodox (only 10-15% of US Jews). Why? My best guess is Reformed Rabbi Stephen Wise's successful proselytizing "Judaism is Communism" to new Russian immigrants.

You can't understand Mordecai Richler's virulent Anti-Quebec Nationalism until you read Culture of Critique.

Money was moving to French since 1943 when compulsory education (yes 1943) began in Quebec and since '60's when Catholic large families ended. http://publications.gc.ca/Collection/Statcan/11F0019MIE/11F0019MIE2005251.pdf …

Quebec is highly anti-Semitic and always was. Heaven help you if you say so publicly in Canada. Almost all Montreal Jews now live in Toronto. My family is English from QC but my Dad moved us to Ottawa in 1969 for reasons you bring up.

Not quite. Lots of anglos, which include Jews, moved to Toronto before each referendum and, on a smaller scale, each time the PQ won an election. The anti-Jewish nationalist was in most part extremist like the FLQ which had a predominant Marxiste-léniniste ideology.

So basically, the migration from Montreal to TO is an Anglo community issue, not specifically a Jewish community issue.

They were also the main financiers against Quebec independence & had a lot of presence in the media http://www.jta.org/1996/09/26/archive/quebec-nationalist-threatens-jews-who-oppose-separatists … http://www.jta.org/1997/12/08/archive/ex-premier-still-blames-jews-for-quebec-autonomy-setback-2 … And they were largely opponents of Bill 101. Names like Beryl Wajsman, Barbara Kay, Howard Galganov, Me Goldwater come to mind
