In general, the idea that the only thing individuals can be proud of is their own accomplishments is daft and ahistorical. Patriotism, esprit de corps, and kaizen depend on people being proud of their groups.

It's also maladaptive. Kin selection is a biological phenomenon. Reciprocal in-group solidarity is (at least in certain contexts) literally for winners, not losers.
-
And ahistorical, as you said. Teddy Roosevelt, Mustafa Kemal, Cecil Rhodes--examples of extremely successful individuals with strong tribal tendencies.
-
And if we take this autism to its logical conclusion, we shouldn't be proud of our parents, siblings, spouses, children, etc, since they're separate individual actors. But what normal, healthy human being acts that way?

Libertarians... Nvm. Nobody. Just crazies.

This is a weird libertarianesque statement from Peterson. As if individuals were independent of their surrounding culture. Europeans were outraged by Darwin, but didn't kill him, persecute his followers etc. That's something to be proud bc it's part of the accomplishment.

It'll morph into a religion. Then back to a race when suddenly they remember messianic Jews.

It's one thing to be proud of your culture, but "white" is just a grab-bag.
-
"it's ok to like german shepherds, but 'dog' is not a real category to like" is stupid and said only about whites

If they feel proud about their race because they have nothing else, then they might want to reflect on their development as a human being. Cultural traditions are important. But an individual who aspires to reach their potential does not completely stake their identity in it.

is it wrong for mediocre psychologists to be proud of the accomplishments of psychology?

It's wrong for white males to use any words beginning with the letter J. Also the letter B, and N, and W, and we're working on the others.
