There's a pretty epic comment thread on Marginal Revolution in 2013 where I explain how you can use AIDS death percentages by occupation to confirm or deny stereotypes about different careers. Many commenters were AGHAST at the thought of using data:https://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2013/05/which-athletes-and-entertainers-choose-to-come-out-of-the-closet.html …

Facts which support unpopular or politically incorrect stereotypes are "inconvenient truths".

Statistical data may well be relabeled “pseudoscience”. Via Steve’s earlier tweet.pic.twitter.com/2gS1jMjYmv

There are much more lesbians, but they live in countries where it's taboo or forbidden. I think the less common a sport in a country is, the more lesbians will play it. I think there are atleast 30 percent lesbians playing the world cup.

Certainly. None of the african players are out. For a very good reason. Even in gay friendly Sweden players usually come out pretty late in their careers, often just after ending it.

Also with the broadening of other labels more likely there are decadent pansexual soccer players whose sexuality tends toward the Caligulaesque than merely gay, surely?

One exception, or buck, is stand up comedy, traditionally popular with three out of four of the orientations.

I once asked a gay guy, “Are there a lot of gays in the arts because they are attracted to it or do the arts make you gay?” I heard stories supporting the latter among dancers. They were pressured and succumbed. A likely factor is the moral tone of today.

The reason I did so much reporting about AIDS back in the '80s was because I was an arts reporter and AIDS was hitting the arts (especially theater and dance) so hard.

I read somewhere a while ago that men, who have much more testosterone, are especially better at sports that require hitting a target.

Lesbians, many, are butch or tomboyish, it's probably more them gravitating to sports, not just soccer, I'm sure.

Glad you put golfers first among the low scorers. Attention, kids of all ages: don't believe that "boring" stereotype. It's a lie. I so wish I'd started playing younger. Don't be like me! The golf stereotype really is one based on surface impressions. Let's go tell Saini & Ball.

Conclusion: comaraderie and teamwork are more masculine than athleticism.

Isn’t it also true that heterosexual men are more intolerant of gay/bisexual men in their immediate vicinity than heterosexual women are of lesbians? A gay man will have a much harder time in team sports than a lesbian woman
