Some stronger form of national divorce is needed. Red America needs to be sovereign enough to protect itself from the election a new people, which is an existential threat. The Bernie agenda, for its part, would be easier if biz & wealthy couldn't just hop across state lines.

The spirit of federalism isn't just about different rules applying in different geographical spaces. It's about the self-determination of different /peoples/. It's abt retaining the benefits of [+] externalities & being forced to live with (& thus mitigate) [-] externalities.

Their entire schtick is forcing people in rural Alabama to do what people in Brooklyn want them to.

Federalism would also enable a whole lot of anti-boot-stamping locales to rise up, and that is some nightmare scenario stuff for globalists.

Democrats already do “embrace federalism” in a number of states that they control. As recent events prove, they have a lust for power and control that knows no limits.

Clark is being naive. The only goal of progressivism is power. Achieving some BS wage hike for burger flippers isn't their end goal and it doesn't matter if federalism achieves it. Federal Power lets them command the Evil People and enforce their religion

The federal tax burden is much too high to allow the states to levy their own taxes in an amount sufficient to fund, e.g., universal single-payer or basic income. I think it is realization of this that has led to a flirtation with the idea of secession among some on the Left.

@svnclark The key is in the original Progressive formulators, like Dewey. They see Democracy as positive content, a specific outcome of social order. Of course, they weren't the first to embrace it. Also in Jacobinism. Voegelin ties it to Gnosticism for an even longer view.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
