Is nobody on the right even mildly disturbed that Kavanaugh's defense involves blatantly false revisionism of his high school and college years?https://twitter.com/BCAppelbaum/status/1044752790449520645 …

Not to get all sentimental on you folks, but the courage to tell hard truths in a political crucible seems like the sort of virtue one might like to see from a lifetime-appointed Supreme Court Justice in a period of extreme partisanship.

"I'll be honest with you, I did one or two things in high school I'm not proud of" isn't even that hard of a truth! It's damn near the closest thing on earth to a universal sentiment.

That's basically what he said, isn't it? "yes, people might have had too many beers on occasion and people generally in high school — I think all of us have probably done things we look back on in high school and regret or cringe a bit, but that’s not what we’re talking about."

He denied ever having been blackout drunk which is almost certainly a flagrant lie and which is highly relevant to his credibility.

Why does it have to be a flagrant lie? Not even all alcoholics have blackouts. Blacking out is not the same thing as passing out.

Neither you or I are a physician and I'm open to evidence on this, but I've had plenty of experience being around heavy drinkers (and have had plenty of long nights myself) and am skeptical that this is common. There are also witnesses who routinely saw him incoherently drunk.

Right, I also never woke up with sweet amnesia over what I'd done the night before. Enough people claim they can't remember what did when drunk that I assume they aren't all lying, but lots of people can get falling down drunk and remember every embarrassing moment of it.

What if it's an IQ thing? I also really enjoyed getting incoherently drunk back in college and remembered every single one of my adventures into self-harm vividly. I'm also of comfortably above-average intelligence, as I would assume the renowned journalists here are as well.

Perhaps the inability of folks here to comprehend someone drinking themselves into complete retrograde amnesia is no different from the inability to comprehend the basic cognition of someone of average intelligence or less and how the comprehend/interpret the world, etc.

I got really drunk, but I still remember stumbling by George Clooney in a casino. I got drunker still and passed out, but that was all she wrote.
