Replying to @c_cauterucci @HannaRosin
Yeah, that's what I always figured, that Hanna Rosin, Slate editor David Plotz's wife, was the transitional figure at Slate, a woman smart enough to hang with the Kinsley crowd, but who knew how to bring in massive clicks from the vast Women's Market.

A funny story about how small the Kinsley-Gates crowd that started Slate was is that Hanna Rosin, Slate editor David Plotz's wife, was the high school debate partner of David Coleman, who sold Bill Gates on Common Core. A friend of mine went 0-8 against Rosin-Coleman in debate.

Triangular connection among Bill Gates, David Coleman, concocter of Common Core & now head of College Board, and Coleman's HS debate partner Hanna Rosin, wife of former Slate editor David Plotz, helps explain why Coleman's new SAT reads like 1990s Slate: http://www.unz.com/isteve/the-slateification-of-the-sat-david-colemans-first-psat-unveiled/ …pic.twitter.com/mBgE8rhLxI
