Trump believes in Americans, and sees the purpose of the federal government as to "promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity." Obama believes in foreigners who haven't gone through the formality of becoming Americans yet.https://twitter.com/ezraklein/status/1038101110399983617 …

No nerve, not Obama (that's topic for another day). It just strikes me as absurd to suggest that Trump is into promoting general welfare for Americans. If you had said "white Americans", or "Americans who came here before the 4th immigration wave" it would have made more sense.

Obamaite conventional wisdom that it's racist for Americans to think of immigration policy as a tool for promoting the general welfare of current American citizens. Instead, Founding Father Emma Lazarus' Zeroth Amendment says it's racist if anybody from anywhere not let in.
-
One thing you can say for Trump is there are some things he doesn't believe in, which tend to be extraordinarily disastrous ideas like the new dogma that it's unconscionably racist for Americans to have a say in who gets to immigrate.
-
You mean Trump tries to improve general welfare by not making Americans who don't want brown people into their country feel like they are racists?
-
"So, what you're saying is [insert straw man here]."
