But you could see an outcome where one person in the audience would respond to a debate between Steve Bannon and David Remnick of The New Yorker by saying, "You know, I never thought about Bannon's point before." So ... the debate must be silenced.https://twitter.com/MrWalterShapiro/status/1036747530493681664 …

I couldn't see an outcome where in the middle of the now canceled discussion, Bannon would turn to Remnick and say, "You know you're right. I never thought about things that way."

Shapiro’s point is so dumb and disingenuous it’s hard to believe he teaches at Yale. It’s like these smart people have an enormous blind spot...

God, it’s to the point where Democrats are actually creeping me out big-time. Not sure if they’ve always been this way or if I just started paying attention.

Do you really think it Remmick would've given Bannon a chance to make a persuasive point? I doubt it. We'd have gotten a lot of "aren't you a racist?" questions, "cross talk" and DNC talking points.

kripkean dogmatism: If I know X is true, I know any evidence against X is evidence against something true. so I know such evidence is misleading. I shud disregard evidence that's misleading. So once I know X is true, I can disregard any future evidence that tells against x.

The New Yorker is just "The Nation" with better cartoons.

Must control the Overton window and the grand societal narrative of immigration and multiculturalism is good, and that "free trade" is even better.

It's easier to see an outcome where another figure with some of the same views, less personal baggage, and better presentation skills changes someone's mind. Bannon could serve in that setting only as a designated villain. Like a pro wrestling match with a Heel and a Face.

all this chickenhead herd animal vacuity reminds me of Celine, (something like) "People are the worst thing in the world and the only thing there is to be afraid of. I shall never again believe in anything they do, or what they say."
