Hawaii is a great illustration of how your "coalition of the fringes" won't explode, just dissipate

When I was a kid in 1960s-70s, it was assumed that the economic future of Hawaii was stratospheric. Hawaii's demography is roughly similar to Silicon Valley's. That didn't happen. I've never seen much exploration of why. (One reason: time zones are bigger problem than thought.)

There wasn't the same kind of military-industrial complex investment into Hawaii for one

Obama's mother spent much of her life in association with U. of Hawaii's East-West Center, which LBJ had planned as the USA's counterpart to Moscow's Patrice Lumumba U. for Third World students.

I respect Obama a lot for this. He was nearly engaged to a White woman when he realized he'd never be great without investing in a Black image. So he dropped her and all the other White parts of his life and staked everything on his new identity, and won the presidency twice.
-
Right. Obama dropped his pretty, very high IQ white/Asian girlfriend to get ahead in politics as a black man. So she married a Korean-American US army officer, then became an expert on Korea while family stationed in Korea, and is now a professor of Korean studies at Oberlin.

He was basically a deracinated SWPL like his mother, but with a politically expedient level of melanin.

Yglesias's great-grandfather was from Galicia in Spain:
#ConquistadorAmerican#FlightFromWhite He's about as nonwhite as Ezra Klein, whose father was born in Brazil. Amusingly, Yglesias and Klein both claim to be part Latino. "Everybody knows the prospects of some mixed-race kid from Palookaville, HI aren't worth a pile of cucumbers. So I reinvented myself! Yeah I did, and what of it! Just like you did; and you, too! But I've made myself what I am, and nobody can say different!" ... and ... scene

Does this prove that there is no such thing as "black"?

Of course, Pan-Africanism is the solution to inter-African divisions. After all, they're all Black, so why differentiate between them? It's like differentiating between Whites inside of the Hajnal Line. It's too much effort for nothing.

With him having lived in Indonesia, one doesn’t exclude the other. He may well have found it easier to find friends in the black community. Black international community is tiny.

He should have specifically labelled himself East African-American to differentiate himself from West African-Americans. Had this difference not been completely ignored, it is possible that West African-Americans would not have accepted Obama as one of their own.
