"The Post-American World" isn't literally about the world of after America; it's just a really fluffy, boring book about how (Fareed Zakaria thinks) the US is supposed to deal with not being the only superpower anymore (because of China, India, etc.). I read it in high school

The source of the photo is linked below; the information in Fareed's book isn't controversial or new certainly and nor is the notion Barack Obama read it. What personal delight he may have derived from it is purely speculative. http://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/05/20/us/0520-CAMPAIGN_5.html …pic.twitter.com/lyUMzhbPod

Not to beat a dead horse here but the book is actually deceptively titled because it is really a success story.pic.twitter.com/Ed4LoizBTx

Now I'm beating a dead horse but Zakaria is a tad confused here and there. "...Zakaria notes that Americans have long been isolated from other countries and are often unprepared to deal with the world’s diversity of language, culture, and politics." *Rudyard Kipling in the 1890spic.twitter.com/YUSHLDo91L

Obama's whole career can be seen as a mixed race/ mixed culture person's attempt to ground himself in a specific identity; Obama identifies as Black only because that is his dominant phenotype, sad.

WW glosses over extensive and often intriguing literature on "passing." In Pauli Murray's 'Proud Shoes' we learn of free blacks in Delaware signing up for the Union army before blacks were allowed to because they could pass as white.

This perplexes me too....Most white Americans are quick to draw a distinction between themselves and Europeans....especially now that Europe is acting so stupidly....I imagine, that distinction would be a chasm of disassociation if Europe was 3rd world
