E.g., US-born Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic, is so ethnocentric that he moved to Israel and served as a guard in an internment camp. But back in USA, he makes Ta-Nehisi Coates and his semi-educated meanderings about "people who think they are white" into a superstar.

There is clearly a methodological problem with this "O" score.
@willwilkinson says that a high value characterizes the academic elite, but it seems to me that it equally well characterizes, say, the Heavens Gate cult. -
I think the "O" should be subdivided into at least two categories: "Cynical O," which is what
@willwilkinson (and the group you allude to) are -- "openness for thee, but not for me." Openness is a virtue except when it interferes with the individual's pursuit of status. -
Then "Actual O," which is what the Heavens Gaters are -- really open to ideas that are novel.
@willwilkinson is totally closed off to a huge set of ideas; his "Actual O" is just about zero. His "Cynical O," his desire that others should be open so that he can lever... -
...that openness into power over them, is unbounded.

That whole thread just comes across as Will Wilkinson celebrating the smell of his own bowel movements and of those like him, but doing so in the most laborious, circuitous manner possible.
-
The part that he’s ignoring is that it’s much easier to like school when the teachers/professors agree with you.
-
Yeah. Wilkinson also seems to frame his entire schtick as "predictors of white success in the university". Would love to see him say "Non-whites will not be successful if they have high in-group identification and have a problem with whites."

Will W: "If nobody gives you the facts that explain why non-whites don't get to not identify with their ethnic groups . . ." You keep using that word "facts"; I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'm not sure who you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure it's the Amish.
