    Steve Sailer Retweeted Jesse Singal

My take on Twitter: institutional journalists made a huge mistake by taking to Twitter so enthusiastically because it leveled the playing field radically. No longer are you a semi-famous celebrity with the credibility of a famous brand, now you're just another 280 character tweethttps://twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1026226999847735296 …

What Twitter does to some ideologically passionate people really is pernicious -- over time, through awful incentives that reward performative nonsense, it really seems to corrode their ability to talk to those who disagree, or to even grok the idea of good-faith disagreement

Also, the journalists find themselves _vastly_ outnumbered by non-journalists for the first time ever in the public sphere.

It also made abundantly clear that most journalists are clearly idiots who cannot defend their stupid, stupid ideas when others are allowed to challenge them on a level playing field. That's why they flipped out in 2015-2016 & twitter censorship went into overdrive.

Recall how impressive recent nyt editor seemed before they started writing a column? Pre column Bill Keller was a highly credentialed handsome oil scion. Then, a fool. Bill Kristol's intellectual stock collapsed when he had his nyt op-d. Tedious and often meaningless prose.

Destroyed whatever credibility they had with "neutrals" too. Insiders always knew it was human beings all the way up; now everyone knows what these people are really like (if anything, worse than "ordinary people").

They're bright but not especially brilliant. They now realize their success came with complete grooming to the narrative, not with any original thinking. So protecting the narrative is one and the same as protecting their success. They will likely support the speech bans. Ironic.

Also, the ambiguity of the platform for journalists- is it social media? Is it a tool for engagement on serious topics?- leads a lot of them to sacrifice any shred of credibility in the quest to dunk on people. So we get "Read my article on tariffs/PEE IS STORED IN THE BALLS"
