Literacy is not genetically determined. Use of Language, metaphors, symbolic representation - as in maps and pictures OR written language symbols - is all constantly under strong selection in all cultures.

Honestly, saying literacy is not gentically determined is the most ignorant statement i have read in some time. As a father of four i can tell you that even within my family some kids just ‘got it’ more quickly than others. And yes, other talents were also unevenly distributed.

My impression is that Gypsies / Roma tend to suffer dyslexia, which contributes to their poor academic performance. On the other hand, they tend to have superb musical skills (except for having a hard time reading music).

What possible “code of conduct” is different when we compare a forager and a farmer? Is selfishness rewarded i one and not the other? Is diplomacy or humour rewarded in one and not the other? How about kindness, hospitality, or courage?

I thought there was a fair amount of research on different personality types selected by farming vs pastoralism... farmers have to get along with people, pastoralists have to put of a tough front

And you think hunter-gatherers and herders do not have to get along with people? Here are some pastoralists (Fulani) putting on a tough front:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx2V3hdVTf0 …

"symbols and language, or to learn social codes of conduct" Because under many forms of selection pressure, these are purely superfluous skills. Such selections are usually brutal and immediate.

I asked his mother one day what love was. She told me it was a fire that could burn down a forest if you were not careful. You had to learn to think of it all day, and gather fuel for it, and carry the live coal from camp to camp. This flame would be the last thing you ever saw.
