Mexico's World Cup performance is remarkably consistently not bad but not great: 7 straight times qualifying for round of 16, 7 straight losses in that round. A much smaller mestizo country, Argentina, is more erratic, but has won twice and made 2014 finals. https://twitter.com/bitcoin_bolsa/status/1013814645667303425 …

Diff. reason. Forget mestizo in Arg. Think majority genes/culture. An Argentine is an Italian who speaks Spanish and thinks he is English. The very cradle of Brit. football in the New World: clubs with names like Newell's Old Boys, founded 1903.

Italian ethnic Argentines still speak better Spanish than Mexicans. Hell, Brazilians probably can make themselves better understood in Spanish than peasant class Mexican (who are notorious across Latin America for speaking absolutely HORRIBLE Spanish).

But of course. It's the country of polo, great physicians, Jose Luis Borges--as great a witer and English-style gentleman as any--and Buenos Aires to Lat-Am what Paris was to Europe before it became capital of Eurabia. Argentina v. Mexico in culture is what England is to Moldova.

Not Paruguay, but Argentina is probably whiter than US by now. Also, Italians there are mainly northerners, while American ones are mainly Sicilian and Calabrian.

Chile has a surprising number of Europeans too. I was in Valdivia once, it was like a somewhat run-down Austrian/Bavarian town transferred to the Pacific coast. Europeans visit during their winter for the skiing.pic.twitter.com/jpKZzNmQbt

Sums up Mexico's place in Latin America - will never rise to the cultural or economic highs of other nations (Chile, Argentina, Columbia, Brazil) but never sinks too low either. Although maybe AMLO will bust that streak (for the worse, naturally).https://twitter.com/Steve_Sailer/status/1013905759783047169 …

Argentina is nowhere near a „mestizo country,“ they’re basically Spanish speaking Italians. The team itself is pretty representative of the population. Have you ever even seen them play?
