The Japanese have been good sprinters since before WWII, making the Olympic finals (top 6) in 1932, and having a number of Olympic semi-finalists (top 16) in recent Olympics. Not sure about japan, but the Chinese rise to sprint stardom in the last few years is do largely in part to the importation of American coaches

That wouldn't surprise me. The Chinese also don't care about the moral aspect of doping AT ALL, & are positively brutal in their selection process. Authoritarian regimes certainly have that "advantage". I used to work with a guy who medaled for the USSR & his stories were nuts.

China also has a good chance at medaling in the 4x100 in 2020, they have two sub-10 sprinters, one of which is a world finalist. They also own the current Asian continental record
