Ladies' golf in USA was chic and sexy during the F. Scott Fitzgerald era (e.g., Nick's girlfriend Jordan Baker, the cheating golfer in "Great Gatsby"). Here's a link to a lovely 1929 Vogue fashion magazine cover of a flapper teeing off https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/483855553686369662/ … But not so much nowhttps://twitter.com/AstolfvonAlabam/status/1011808308414558208 …

I wonder how much talent could be developed with 500k USD spread globally at multiple age levels for women's golf.

1920s were a great time for USA, aesthetically speaking - real Jazz, Art Deco, Flapper Girl look. It was the era when American Catholics were building those glorious brick churches that anchored so many ethnic parishes.pic.twitter.com/6OxZU1hdME

Women Golfer's still thought as "classy" as late as early 50s. See Babe Didrikson, or Hepburn in "Pat and Mike". But most women prefer Tennis, because it takes less time & they burn off calories (weight control).

Edith Cummings The character Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby is very obviously modeled after golfer Edith Cummings.

Didn't Fitzgerald base her on a real golfer?

Well, trying to make something seem trendy/fashionable/sexy to young white wealthy American girls is the ultimate challenge to any marketer. I'd put out a horror movie about unrepentant blonde, blue eyed but vaguely hispanic gold-digger who beats the monster to death with clubs

My mother and my grandmother golfed. My father thought golf was a women's sport.
