I'm not sure I buy that. Most living legends are of the liberal left. But it's a safe bet if you can't find any public mentions of a living legend's politics, he's got some heretical views.

You mean like Martin Scorcese, James Cameron, Spike Lee, Woody Allen, Gus Van Sant, Terry Gilliam? I agree that some directors are less likely to drink the Koolaid. Not sure it's all or even most.
I’m not a fan of Lynch in general, though he’s obviously brilliant (I just don’t like what he wants to do) ... but yes ... seeing politics as Moral Melodrama is the default of hacks, not geniuses.
Lynch's entire oeuvre is seriously counter to Hollywood culture. The fact that he personally talks a lot about Indian mysticism, and in most of his work uses a modernist approach, leads the minions to fail to comprehend how reactionary his art is. I love Lynch.
Can you blame them? Such displays don't get much press, and they're few and far between when they do. It's nothing like the attention paid to the Roseanne Barr sort of display.
