The United States government spends a pittance defending United States' border compared to what it spends projecting military power in Central Asia, the Sahel, the Euphrates River, and so forth. https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1010009223378472960 …

If the US spent a little more on constructive regional development instead of destabilising Central America by inundating it with arms there might be fewer people applying for asylum:https://www.thetrace.org/2017/05/gun-trafficking-central-america-immigrant-crisis-trump-wall/ …

I worked for multinational agricultural corporations in the United States, Mexico and Central America after my first stint in the Air Force. The idea that it’s US guns which ‘fuel’ the violence in Latin America is bizarre motivated reasoning — or indicative of a frontal lobotomy.

‘Constructive regional development’ in Latin America means the USG is lobbied intensively before it throws money at multinational corporations and NGOs. Those NGOs and multinationals then get a secure line of profitable work which accomplishes nothing while tithing Hidalgo.

The idea that ‘we only need to spend more of our money on them’ in order to better these people’s lives betrays no understanding of how finance and development work in a world with a minimally regulated banking sector and no sovereign money.

Here’s a quick and dirty lesson in how the world works which nobody thought to teach you at POZ-University: Banks lend in excess of their deposits to businesses who’re coming to them looking for financing. These businesses pay back the loans if their investment works out.

The bank (in a functioning economy) only lends to people, and at rates, which are likely to succeed in their venture and pay them back at a reasonable profit. But, in a sense, since they are lending money that they don’t have — and wasn’t even printed — they are creating money.

The problem isn’t that there isn’t enough money in Latin America — or too little US money because we’re too cheap and racist to finance their development — no, the problem is that they’re simply not as capable of creating businesses and institutions which can remain solvent.

One day soon the U.S. will suffer a massive terrorist attack conducted by enemies infiltrating through the southern border. Thousands will die. The MSM will run dozens of stories about a feared “backlash” against illegal immigrants.

Is Matty Y. aware of the existence of state and local police? We don't leave it all to the federales. Murder has to fit special criteria to be any of their business.
