I cant support any legislation today that would adversely affect my grandparents 100 years ago. That's the litmus test

The thread is mostly people worried about what would have happened to their own ethnic group who think its its evil to worry about what will happen to their own ethnic group

Is this an endorsement of turn of the 20th century era immigration statutes? Something we could all get behind, I think.
-
Is this generally an endorsement of loosening existing restrictions on Euro immigration? Latino immigration has also been unequally distributed - I'm a fan of giving more Argentinians and Uruguayans a chance. Another thing we could all get behind?

Why concede even that. What he's saying isn't true. There WERE limits. People with communicable diseases were sent back (I had a great great aunt sent back for a lung infection), as were people who became public charges.

They never let in just anyone at Ellis Island. Checked for diseases, etc. Very picky!

Bringing in people from a half dozen mostly European countries over 400 years now makes us a ‘nation of immigrants’ beholden to every earthling lest we be called racists.

Many look at the immigration thing wrong. Our European migration to North America was just like Indians/Eskimos & after 1000 yrs, since Leif Erikson, it has now ended with the immigration laws of the 1960s. Our migration was SEPARATE from Columbus too. Erikson & Cabot instead.
-
Our migration created a new Euro ppl of mixed Euro origins but native to North America. Also, many people think Erikson, Erik the Red, etc were not continuous into colonial times but there is lots of evidence to say it was. This timeline make it clear. https://twitter.com/MooreofVinland/status/1000173575406571525 …

The dam of info about the pre-Columbus history of Europeans in America was broken by Farley Mowat with his 'Farfarers' & Patricia Sutherland with her archaeological discoveries in the arctic but is being suppressed. She even got fired by Cdn govt after her finds. Her husband too.
-
Look at this map & read that list of info and it's hard to believe that European history in America was not just continuous from Erikson's "Vinland" until colonial times but even longer into the past. More ppl need to know this info asap.https://twitter.com/MooreofVinland/status/1000160837582061568 …

Anyways, sorry for the rant but you seem capable of absorbing this info and realizing it's importance.
-
Also, PLEASE look into the plight of Patricia Sutherland. She has been making archaeological discoveries of Europeans in the arctic & it looks like she is being punished for it. She needs more awareness of what has happened to her. Petition here.
https://www.change.org/p/justin-trudeau-dr-patricia-sutherland-s-ground-breaking-research-on-an-early-viking-norse-presence-in-arctic-canada-is-gravely-threatened-and-i-would-like-to-see-her-dismissal-from-the-museum-of-civilization-now-the-museum-of-history-ended … -
Last thing, if you have any doubt about this, read Farley Mowat's book 'Farfarers'. He was kinda left wing and knew more about natives than European history but he figured out some stuff that nobody else did because of his arctic experiences. An odd book but it will convince you.

Don’t you know that once you open the door to your house, it’s immoral for you to ever close it again?

I love grannie and gramps so much. Shitty Irish music playing in the background. Somalis are the real Americans. Tear. Because if we don’t let them in you’re saying my grandparents are are are not good people and and and did I say I loved my grandparents. QED

Right. So let’s open the borders. There are several billion people that want in.

One of my immigrant forebears went to prison for murder. Another was a sort of anarchocommunist. Objectively, I don’t see how America was improved by their addition, or why I should endorse everything they did in life.
