#TheAmericans In reality, Soviet spying in USA worked mostly only when the President sympathized with the Communist Party USA: i.e., FDR's era. CPUSA provided Moscow w/many superb spies in 1930s-40, very few during anti-Communist eras like Reagan's. http://www.unz.com/isteve/the-americans/ …pic.twitter.com/OEKBb2raFk

#TheAmericans is based on a spy ring that was uncovered by the FBI...in 2010. Make of that then what you will, whether that's (just?) a consequence of bad Obama policy, or part of a larger attempt by Russia to undermine the US, which endures, but is denied by most of #AltRight

Lots of good period music to choose from in the '80s though.

Not sure if you’re joking, but the reason Soviet espionage might have been more effective in the Roosevelt administration is that the US was very new to the espionage game, especially compared to the Russians, who excelled at it going back to the Napoleonic wars.

In the '80's the USSR had spies, but for pay. In the Great Depression & WWII people were willing to work for the USSR because they were Communists. (And Aug 39-June 41 CPUSA opposed FDR for some reason but spies kept spying)

Fish rotting from the head down and all that. Hadn't known this but it makes a world of good sense. So glad our President is spreading the MAGA spirit! 🇺🇸
