Sorry but no. We (Political Scientists) know that people don't vote for political beliefs but for values. We know that "rational choice" is pseudoscience. This is the typical thing that is said by people who are not from the field.

Would you be so kind to let me know the reference that 21 points to?

I found note 21. Apparently, "repeatedly" = twice two yrs ago and once 10 yrs ago, even if the works cited are correctly interpreted, which I have not checked.pic.twitter.com/z0UyV985rV

Brilliant, thank you. Every reference against the myth of the rational voter is a good reference.

(American) polit science is one of the most derivative of social sciences :( Depended on law for 1st half of 20th century, psychology for next 35 yrs, and economics since then :( Historical sociologists are sometimes the best polit scientists (C. Tilly).

I was trained as polit scientist & have many criticisms of it, but this quote from non-polit scientist Steven Pinker is strawman. Polit scientists have not been surprised by this since at least 1964. See "Nature of Belief Systems" article summarized in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Converse …pic.twitter.com/DlOWq6XvOG

That's why voting rights were initially reserved for property owning / tax paying white males.

They shouldn't be, the education system in this country pretty much guarantees the ignorance they record. To come from an intact family and get a moderate education in America is very rare & getting rarer.

Oh that is bollocks. Any student who pays attention in class and reads their textbooks can get an "education" and won't be ignorant about the basics of US gov't. The truth is most students are too lazy to pay attention and then turn around and cry that it's someone else's fault.

I didn't need a PhD to figure that out. It's inherent in the human condition as most people are, frankly, not very bright.

It is not about being bright or not , people simply don't care about this stuff there is much better things to do for the average guy than read books on political theory or geopolitics
