1. Firing Robert Mueller would trigger a constitutional crisis and lay bare a fundamental choice for this generation of Americans. We are trustees of this great constitutional republic that is unique in all the history of the world. We are obligated to generations not yet born ..

Those two things are not the same. The GOP is poison. Look what your policies have wrought.

Sorry Steve, appreciate your bei g one of the *very few* Republicans standing up to Trumps's BS, but Edwin is 100% on the money. The path to Trump starts with Reagan's 'govt is the problem', through Gingrich, W and Palin. Trump is a natural progression of that order.

Don't forget Reagan starting his presidential campaign in Philadelphia, MS. Look it up, youngsters. Beginning of the end. But anyone who makes note of this poison is as bad as a Trumpster, i.e. a Republican.

@SteveSchmidtSES We’re on opposite sides of the political aisle, but watching and reading your commentary over the past couple years has made me look at things differently. You’ve influenced me to shift my focus to preserving our country, not R/D ideology.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

You’re missing the real danger. More likely is that Mueller or other finds serious charges, impeachment begins, and Trump tweets demanding followers rise up and toss rule of law to defend him. Trump loves Trump more than America, right? 1/2

The obvious result is civil unrest, followed by National Guard deployed, then martial law. And until he’s impeached, who controls Martial Law? Trump. Then what??? 2/2

Mr. Schmidt, I applaud you taking what must be a lonely stand these days within the ranks of the GOP, but I have to agree: your party has been poisoning this country for 30 years or more. (cont'd)

From Lee Atwater to Karl Rove, from Edwin Meese to Sarah Palin and the hideous Mitch McConnell, the assaults by the right on the working class, minorities, civil rights, free speech, the rule of law and the right to vote have been relentless. (cont'd)
