Grant was hardly a champion of racial justice. In 1862 he issued his Genera Order 11 which expelled Jews from Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi.

Which he regretted the rest of his life and likely had much to do with his fathers business associates. He received wide praise from Jewish leaders during his presidency.

Surely there are many others deserving of a tribute. I grew up in the south and these southern pride tributes were common, although misguided. I read that Lee wanted no part of tributes and monuments.

Hell Yeah! I vomit whenever I see a fellow Michigander with a rebel bumper sticker/flag/plate as if southern rebellion has any appeal to a Great Lakes American. Maybe the allure of armed rebellion & human bondage dont have a better symbol than stars & bars?
