Subsidizing the employer and I am against corporate welfare. 40 percent of the country doesn’t have $400 cash available. That reality is destabilizing our democracy and is fundamental to understanding how a grifter like Trump succeeded politically. I turned 50 years old this year

I am glad that you feel that way and wish everyone did. I am. 61 year old high school teacher with a masters degree that works a second job as a server in a hotel. We do what we have to do. It does not diminish my intelligence. Everybody deserves dignity

The people you speak of are our real essential workers. They haven’t had a living wage in decades, survive paycheck to paycheck, and cannot keep waiting for the government to decide they’re worthy of having healthcare and a full fridge. It’s a lovely speech, add in advocacy.

That is another problem with America - people having to rely on tips to make a living. Anywhere else they get a proper wage and tips are for extra special service. Foreign visitors don't understand that their tip is effectively paying the waitresses salary.

Feels very odd. Last time in Europe I was in Poland. Tips weren’t expected and if you did you might get a weird look.

I teach nursing at a university - waitresses are able to morph into the best nurses. It’s the multitasking.

This is funny. I worked the NJ diners for years in my early 20s. I started RN school when I was 29. I always said it relied in the same skills set. Prioritizing, efficiency, service and connection to people, and multitasking...also same shoes

You lost me on this one. I respect skills. I'm not about to give my plumber an opportunity to perform my next colonoscopy. I'm not saying my plumber isn't a great person, whose opinions are worthy of respect. I'm just saying.

So AOC graduated cum laude from BU w/ a BA in international relations and economics and was an intern for Ted Kennedy. Maybe a better analogy would be your doctor working his way through med school as a plumber.
