Last week @AOC made a profoundly true observation about Republican members who make fun of her for having been a waitress. I think being a waitress is a qualification for being in the Congress. We would have a much better Congress if it was comprised of more people who actually 1

Can make someone’s day or night. It’s not a big thing, in fact it’s a little thing. It’s a way of showing respect for hard work. I have been focused on the practice of gratitude and appreciating small things this year. I believe if you can do something to make someone’s day. Do

it. It’s not just waiters and waitresses who rely on tips, It’s valet parking attendants, doormen, hotel staff etc. Before Covid I was traveling 300,000 miles a year and the reality of that life means a lot of tipping because you rely on people who work in the service industry.

The few interactions I have with people who rely on tips since COVID, I double. The hair salons are at half capacity, restaurants at half, I tip twice until they are back to normal because I can do my job remotely. We can only get through this together.

What an indictment of your nation that wages can be so low that the customer has to pay them rather than their employer. When in the US, I asked lots of waiters and bar staff would they prefer a liveable wage or being dependent on tips. Almost all preferred a liveable wage.

I'm in Sydney, Australia. Our commercial rents are comparable to yours. Your fruit, vegetables, groceries and fuel costs are cheaper than here. Yet eating out and bar prices are comparable or more expensive. But you can't afford to pay a living wage. Doesn't make sense.

It's time to eliminate tipping system where it is the fundamental part of a person's wage. A person's income shouldn't be based on the whims of the customer. Increase the price of the item and pay them a living wage.
