        The Vichy Regime was largely seen as a puppet government of the Nazis and never recognized by the Allies during WWII... so maybe NOT a great comparison...

        As in the Vichy French from WWII. Those French generals and govt officials that wanted to keep some little power or a few that wanted to shield the French civilians made a deal with the Devil, the Nazis. In the end it didnt work out well.
