.@anneapplebaum I’m curious about collaboration in the historical sense around the @NoahCRothman and @mattklewis sensibilities, which seems to me to constantly seek moral equivalency between the indefensible and the inherently flawed. I’ve been to all of the camps but 1/https://twitter.com/reedgalen/status/1314388815482482690 …

passionately embracing. When threats to Democracy arise, like they do now, it requires hardness and fierceness in response.
@mattklewis and@NoahCRothman are soft friends of classical liberalism and democracy. They think right and wrong is a calculation and a position.Show this thread -
They are both polished and comfortable. I wish they both had guts and conviction. The heart of a Vichy is one I can never understand but I know it and we all know it when we see it.

Chamberlains is an interesting allusion; pure cowardice and unmoored convenience rings true to that group.

Mr. Schmidt I enjoy watching you on MSNBC. Please talk a little bit about where Biden stands with the electoral college. Thank you.

It was at this point I realized it was disrespectful to the point and the prose to remain seated while reading. And then I clapped, alone and sincerely like a character in a Sorkin screenplay. Thank you

I like the Chamberlain analogy. Wish we could capture years of cumulative 'what-aboutists' drivel, and expose them as appeasers with the attendant shame. I hope to god they'll face their moral reckoning..."Children in cages, but what about her e-mails"?

Neville Chamberlain is an excellent example of today's GOP. I also think there is some similarity with the Senators that gave Augustus Caesar the Purple Robe. Ironic that they stabbed Julius for wanting it and then turned around and gave it to his Roman Heir?

To be fair - Churchill admired Hitler & Mussolini at one point. Having lived through the rise of Farage & Johnson, and having seen so called 'centrist' MPs on the right and left in the UK not see the danger both posed, I can better understand how WW2 happened.

There is a saying...weakness invites tyranny...I thank you Steve for speaking honesty and directly to the threat to our democracy and those that support the down fall of democracy....
