In Normandy is the American Cemetery. There are nearly 10,000 graves there. The names of 1600 missing in action are inscribed on a memorial wall. There are 38 pairs of brothers buried together. Two of those brothers are sons of a President and one of them is among the three (11)
Medal of Honor Recipients buried there. There is a chapel in the middle of the Cemetery with a mosaic on the roof that depicts America blessing her sons as they depart to fight for freedom and liberty. There is a large statue there that is called “The spirit of youth rising (12)
from the waves”. The thing that stands out most of all is the perfect symmetry of the graves.The Crosses and Stars of David mark an American Army at permanent and final rest. It was an Army of liberation that struck down the tyranny and evil of fascism. Every grave faces west 13/

I have that same shot. We were there a year ago with a group from our son's school. It was an honor to walk among those who gave their lives for Americans' freedom -- and that of untold numbers of others.
