I would argue that 1860 was more important than 1864 (with the South seceded and not voting, was Lincoln seriously in danger of not being reelected?), but overall this thread is spot on.
I hate this framing. If things are as bad as you say (and they are), everyone should be publicly demanding his resignation immediately, not waiting until November. If the GOP Senate stopped propping him up, he would be gone in a heartbeat.
Once the name Trump becomes just a verb to describe incompetent buffoonery, we will still have to deal with his ignorant followers and the fact that Trump & Co know our nation’s secrets.
