  1. The fact is people assume that I simply fell into money through an inheritance or won the lottery because, well, there’s just no way I did all this on my own.

  3. The major benefit of just slowing the hell down: processing information from around you. Most of us take in way more than we can process. Slow the fuck down. Process. Be mindful. Don’t be afraid of being idle.

One of the popular arguments against the movement is "What if we all did this? The economy would collapse!" Guys...the total consumer debt in the U.S. is over $13 trillion dollars. Trillion. We all aren't going to achieve FI and retire. Stop that stupid argument.

  5. ATTN: Has anyone out there taken a career personality test? If so, did you find it useful or a waste of time?

"These articles send the wrong message to the younger generation." Totally. Saving money, developing purpose, automating retirement and investing in appreciating assets... Yeah, who needs that type of advice?

"I attempted the same thing and "retired" at 38. Then after a year of "retirement", I almost went crazy not being of use to society." You retired without a purpose, amigo. That's one of the things we talk about a LOT. If you make that mistake, you did it to yourself.

Another nice one: "they inherited lots of money" Afraid not. "they worked tech-sector jobs that paid 6 figures" True! "they lived in low cost rentals" Nope. "they don't have kids" True! 50% success rate. Assumptions aren't a good look.

Moving on with some of my favorite comments to my MarketWatch article. Here's one: "The magic word is DINK". It's true, no kids. But, has kids. So does . Don't give yourself excuses.

In your relationship as well as life: Choose wisely. And by that, I mean pick your battles. Wisely. Don't pick every one. It doesn't matter if you're always right. What matters? Your happiness. Those who pick every battle aren't happy people. Almost ever.

I don't talk a lot about "luck", but I will admit one major element in my Financial Freedom life that I didn't control. I am extremely fortunate to have retired during a great market. We've gained about 20% since calling it quits back in 2016. Talk about good timing.

Resist the temptation to believe that being busy means you're "productive". They are mutually exclusive. Idle time is healthy and rejuvenating and SHOULD be a part of your lifestyle.

In as well as everything else in life: there are very few true *experts* out there. We all write and think from our own perspectives, biases and histories. What's true for us won't be true for someone else. Understand that. And, embrace it.

The is kinda like our political system as a whole. It's a mountain of mess. Don't let politics be a distraction. There's value in getting involved, but there's more value in taking care of yourself. Never forget that.

There's one question that I ask myself on a daily basis that's changed the way I live, for the better. The question is simple: "Does this really matter"? More times than not, the answer is no.

Curious: Have you ever changed your life or a habit based on something that you’ve read on Twitter? If so, what?

I used to work for a company with “unlimited PTO”. They also had bonuses based on PTO that you didn’t use. Most of us didn’t use an hour of our PTO...all year. Don’t be fooled by unlimited PTO. Take time off. Take care of yourself.
