Using Japanese in #LaTeX is fairly easy. On #macOS with #MacTex 3 steps:
1. Make sure all files are UTF-8
2. Download fonts IPA Fonts: http://ipafont.ipa.go.jp/old/ipafont/download.html …
3. Add this to your .tex:
\usepackage{zxjatype}
\usepackage[ipa]{zxjafont}
#XeLaTex preferred, #zxjatype uses #xeCJK
