  1. People complain about addiction to social media. Addiction to one’s own thoughts is even more common. It’s called rumination, and it underlies everything from depression to, in extreme cases, OCD.

  2. Reading a famous book and failing to appreciate it is not evidence that it’s “overrated.” That would require a separate argument. If you have no such argument but still insist that the book is overrated, I’m afraid it’s your judgement that’s impeached.

A relative of mine from China just sent me this. Rows of police surrounds her residential block where a positive case was found. It was someone who returned from . Now their entire family has been taken away. The whole block is now sealed off until 16th Feb.

A common misconception. You need to chant "Yoneda" 3 times in your bathroom mirror at midnight, and you'll be embedded fully and faithfully into your category of presheaves.

It's conceptually possible that VR is 'the next smartphone' - the next universal platform, delivering the metaverse. But it seems more likely to me that VR is the new games console (or even just a subset of that market): deep, immersive and most people don't care at all.

Working at Blockstack is the first time I’ve had an indefatigable energy. I’m deeply intellectually stimulated and passionate about the subject matter. I feel deep information asymmetries yet to be exploited and insane long term value to be created. I’m happy and excited.

I’d like to apologize to Balaji for some earlier criticism. Microbial genomics was in Balaji’s Ph.D scope so he is well qualified to speak on this issue. More to the point Balaji has done a fantastic job of explaining and researching the coronavirus crisis. I was wrong.
