The Hachette decision to drop the Woody Allen book makes me very uneasy. It's not him; I don't give a damn about Mr. Allen. It's who gets muzzled next that worries me.

Because they realized that people actually give a shit about him being trash. He's not being muzzled. He's free to say what he wants where he wants. They were just convinced, by their employees, not to give him a stage to say it on.

It's an ironic situation. The publisher's own staff demonstrating, and the bad p.r. that came from it, forced Hachette's hand. I don't agree with it. They should have made a sluggish first run and tested public reaction to it.
