This is a privileged take. Institutional racism has made it so works by black people, and by people of color have been ignored or passed over regardless of quality. We need diversity to produce greater work. It also assumes all art isn't informed by the artists' identity.

the problem is the diversity that is NECESSARY in art, because art mirrors real life, is being overlooked for men who look just like you. this is so disappointing.

Came here to say this. Have read books set in the Deep South where every character is white to the point it stands out that the author doesn’t want to “deal with” race

Yeah, no. Standards of quality require diversity of content, and homogeneity produces warped ideas of what “quality” is. We deprive ourselves if we don’t aggressively pursue and boost diversity in all art forms.
