The ad doesn't actually cite a source but the number matches this report from Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety. Their stat includes 18 and 19-year-olds which appear to make up about 49% of the total deaths. https://everytownresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/EFGV14_gun-violence-american-children-FACT-SHEET-062019A.pdf …

Everytown's report is about gun violence involving "children & teens" but Bloomberg's ad uses the same stat while referring only to "children."

Everytown used a five year average of gun deaths between 0-19 years of age in the CDC's Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS) to come up with 2,887 gun deaths per year among that age group.pic.twitter.com/dr3uuQTCaw

When you look at the same data but remove the adults you get 1,499 gun deaths per year among children between 2013 and 2017. That's about 51% of the number shown in Bloomberg's Super Bowl ad. https://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate.html …

1/ Once they have you arguing over whether it's 2,900 or 1,500, you're arguing past the sale. The fact is that there's a very small subset of the population that is responsible for the vast majority of all gun crime. That subset includes teens.
-
2/ These are people in and around gangs, people involved in illicit drug trafficking and people living in an honor culture who are prohibited possessors but nonetheless carry guns because they are literally tools of survival in their environments.

Surprise!
@factcheckdotorg called them on it -- rather gently, but did point out that the "featured" death was a 20-year-old. No mention of defensive shootings, scant mention of law enforcement. -
Don't see that
@PolitiFact or@snopes have reviewed it. Bets whether they do? - Još 1 odgovor
