Like most gun control of this kind, it's less likely police will go door to door to enforce the confiscation law and more likely it will be disproportionately used as a tack on charge to extend sentences of inner-city minorities brought up on other charges.

Still, if you posses a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds in New Jersey after Monday, you're committing a felony. Even if you legally purchased it in New Jersey on Sunday. There's no grandfathering. It's straight up confiscation.

I haven't read the actual decision yet but here's a write up from The Hill with some excerpts.https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/419911-appeals-court-upholds-nj-ban-on-high-capacity-magazines …

Lots of people in my mentions would like to see SCOTUS take this case up. That's always a possibility. However, they've been reluctant to take 2nd Amendment cases in the decade after Heller.

Only 4 justices need to agree to hear a case but even after Kavanaugh was seated they denied cert to a gun rights case earlier this year. Plus, generally, SCOTUS waits to weigh in until there's disagreement in the lower courts. Not sure if there is yet on magazine confiscation.

But that's more or less because New Jersey and California are the only states to go for a full confiscation scheme when regulating ammunition magazines. So, there isn't a ton of litigation out there on it.

Republicans love states rights until it’s something they disagree with. Things are legal today that won’t be in the future and vice versa stop acting shocked. They were selling supplements in GNC not long ago that are now illegal. Stop crying.
-
I love states rights. Until and unless they infringe upon individual rights. It's not that hard.

They come for legally purchased guns next. Hunter's shotguns too.
-
Exactly. NJ can do what CA did and make a list of “acceptable” guns and ban all the rest. In the end the only “acceptable” gun will be single-shot .22 rifles that are registered and stored dismantled in a safe unless being used at a licenced range...like the UK.

NJ residents made their own bed. They have no one to blame for losing their 2A rights than themselves. They’ve routinely elected a leftist legislature who have pretty much stripped them of their rights. Try buying a firearm. Good luck. Carrying? Forget it.

Sooooooo how they gonna enforce this without risking the lives of those enforcing it?
-
They won’t be going door-to-door to search & confiscate. Against our rights. They will just prevent public transfer & cops will bust the non compliant they “happen” to stop for whatever reason(s).
-
I can’t imagine why people would put up with that.
-
It’s insane. Wouldn’t fly in my state. Nearly 1 million active CCW with a population of nearly 9.7 million.
-
I just realized something. Wouldn’t making all owners of these devices before the law took effect but make them felons after the fact violate ex post facto?
-
Yes. They have options though. Turn them in. Send them out of state. Destroy them. Modify them to only accept 10 rounds which requires purchasing a new follower and/or spring depending on the mag. Of course, people could go the civil disobedience route & risk a felony.
-
I should say imo that would be a yes from me. You’re forcing a citizen who legally purchased a product to destroy, modify, transfer their mag out of state or risk a felony. Not to mention there’s no way to reliably enforce it. You can go to another state & buy a mag off the shelf
-
It’s a pointless law. They had already capped magazines to 15 rounds. I haven’t seen a shred of evidence suggesting it has saved a single life or prevented a single violent incident. It solely impacts law abiding citizens.
