Food for thought for 2019. @DotAllConf @CraftCMS

Yeah we’ve already decided not to take
@DotAllConf back to the US for a while. Next year will likely be Montreal ;) -
FYI, Latin American people getting a visa to Canada is harder than US
-
Interesting – thanks for letting me know.
-
Visas were a big issue at Rights Con in Toronto last May. I think that factored into their decision to move it to Tunis next time around.

I sympathize, but I was convinced against this because lots of people in the US can't leave as a result of the ban -- since their reentry is blocked. There's no solution, and every country excludes some nationalities or is prohibitively expensive to enter.
-
I was thinking this while reading his post. You need to also make them internet accessible as well, 2 way video streaming.

Even before this Japanese immigrations were much less hellish than US.

I wish it was easier for US based companies to host conferences on non-US soil. But realities of labor laws in other countries make it almost impossible to do so (at least, to do so profitably)
#sad -
How so?
-
We (us citizens) show up to run a conference in (foreign country). Suddenly we need work visas because we are ‘stealing jobs from the local populace’. But there is no remote company to sponsor us, because WE are the company.
-
Ah, if you are earning from a conference abroad without being a taxpayer in that country, yeah, I can see the issue. I guess there might be global/local organizations that can help, for a cost. Why "populace"?
-
‘populace’ - Cause it’s a fun word to use? :-D But yeah, that’s the overall gist. We are a company that runs tech conferences. We’d love to run them out of USA. But really not possible for us :-/
-
To run one in Europe, you'd need to open a branch in some European country. Not too expensive these days, but paperwork-consuming.
-
Except you are talking to a 2-person small business that is barely paying ourselves as it is :) — ‘branch in Europe’ is massive overhead, and too expensive by our definition, as much as we’d like to consider running events elsewhere.
-
Fair enough :)

trouble is, America is probably so big & varied, both geographically & geologically that it could pull a full Cartman "screw you guys, I'm going home", go isolationist & survive
