Actually, investigations are to make sure there has been no criminal activity. You forgot that part. If there is nothing there, you shouldn't worry so much. 
Robert Mueller is now investigating Republican donors for supporting President Trump. The goal is obviously to scare away Republican donors through the fear of possible investigation. Lois Lerner on steroids.
