Perhaps the teacher simply had a clumsy way of asking "who benefits from slavery, and who loses." That is something worth thinking about.

This issue is far more complicated & nuanced than most realize. Consider, for example, this excerpt from "'Tis Sixty Years Since" by historian, abolitionist, and Union brigadier general Charles Francis Adams Jr. Most people are simply unable to process it. https://books.google.com/books?id=zHY_AAAAIAAJ&q=ebony#v=onepage&q&f=false …pic.twitter.com/ETQEIhpTG8

Don't they want children to be able to think? If something exists for centuries there has to be a reason for it doing so.

Their ancestors get to live in the U.S. instead of a shithole country in Africa. Was that the right answer? That wasn't the right answer, was it?

It was pretty close.. we're not supposed to say 'shithole' anymore

Its understandable why they did this, but I wouldn't go as to far as say it makes sense. Merely I can see why some snowflakes would be offended. It would piss them off equally if you taught them about irish slaves. Goes to show you where their morality lies.

WTF 8th grade? Maybe college because they should be able to have some critical thinking skills but I don't think 2nd Ed has those skills.

While I can understand exactly how this would be non-PC, being able to consider and understand fully both sides of the argument is fundamental to critical thinking and reasoning. I would support such an assignment.

Just imagine a counterfactual ethical account of this topic. Wew. Like playing snakes n ladders, going from the 'first principle contrarians' quadrant straight to the 'troglodyte' quadrant.

To be fair there is no slavery in America but there is still slavery in a few parts of Africa. So in the long run wouldn't one of the positives be not being a slave technically speaking?
