What if it turns out the evidence presented backs a true claim, and you’re hurting your children for no good reason at all?

Thousands of years of human history says this isn't so. Not spanking/disciplining is a new age phenomenon and look at the mess we're in.

I ll call bullshit on this one; previous generations which used corporal punishment as the norm where far more respectful and law abiding and social order accepting

A little tap on the hand and spanking is ok in my books I was spanked that's what missing today the kids r running the show they have no respect for their parents

I can only speak for myself in saying that I am in no way traumatized from what was completely normal "corporal punishment" as a kid. I feel that it built character and established a precedent of consequences for actions. That being said, I must side with the research in general.

Let's say that spanking is an ineffective way to discipline children, and that there are better alternatives. That doesn't prove it is child abuse

So you're just hitting them for no reason? Lol yeah, that's pretty abusive, I'd say.

Not disciplining your children in a thoughtful, firm way IS abusive. Some of your kids will need it, while others won’t. Takes wisdom to know how to navigate it.

No researcher in academia would dare risk her/his career by publishing a study contradicting the prevailing [fill in the blank]-ist meme about childrearing. The purpose of academic research is getting more grants, not discovering the truth.

I spanked my 2 kids with controlled force until they were about 10 & then expected them to be self controlled. They make me proud. I have a niece with 2 kids under 10 that have never been spanked & she cries regularly with frustration because they are totally unmanageable brats
